Solar Calculator: Cost, Subsidy and Payback
Enter your monthly electricity bill and see the system size it justifies, what it costs before and after the PM Surya Ghar subsidy, and how long it takes to pay for itself. The assumptions behind every number are published below.

Instant Solar Pricing Estimate
Move the slider to your average monthly electricity bill and the model sizes the system, prices it, applies the subsidy you may qualify for and works out the payback. The tariff is held flat across all twenty-five years — no assumed price rises inflating the numbers.

Indicative estimate, not a quotation. Costs are planning bands confirmed only after a site survey; generation assumes a clean, unshaded array and is derated for soiling; savings are capped at 95% of your bill because fixed charges and meter rent remain; and the 25-year figure applies module degradation and provisions one inverter replacement. Subsidy follows PM Surya Ghar as currently notified — verify on the official government portal, pmsuryaghar.gov.in. Dvaitam does not represent any government entity.

Methodology
What this calculator assumes
Published in full so you can check our arithmetic — and so anyone comparing solar calculators can see exactly where the numbers come from.
- Electricity tariff is held flat across all 25 years. Assuming annual tariff escalation is the most common way a payback figure gets flattered, so we leave it out.
- Generation is derated for soiling before any saving is calculated — panels in Rajasthan collect dust, and a clean-panel figure overstates output.
- Module degradation is applied across the 25-year lifetime figure rather than assuming constant output.
- One inverter replacement is deducted from lifetime savings. Inverters do not last 25 years.
- Savings are capped at your actual bill. You cannot save more than you spend, and exported units earn less than the retail tariff.
- Specific yield is set per region, from about 1,470 kWh/kWp in Uttar Pradesh to 1,740 in western Rajasthan.
Every one of these choices makes the output more conservative than a typical vendor calculator. That is deliberate. A payback figure that assumes rising tariffs and spotless panels looks better on a screen and worse on a rooftop, and we would rather be trusted at year seven than believed at week one.

Once you have a number
The estimate tells you the shape of the project. These pages tell you what it involves.
- System sizes and pricesInstalled cost for every capacity from 1 kW to 100 kW.
- PM Surya Ghar subsidyWhat you qualify for and how the ₹78,000 is claimed.
- Net metering in RajasthanHow JVVNL, AVVNL and JdVVNL handle the application.
- Rooftop solar installationWhat the installation actually involves, start to finish.
- Solar company in JaipurLocal survey, installation and subsidy filing.
- 3 kW or 5 kW?Where the subsidy ceiling changes the right answer.
Frequently asked questions
Is this calculator a quotation?
No. It is an indicative estimate built from regional generation data and typical installed-cost bands. A real quotation requires a site survey — roof structure, shadow analysis, available area, the existing electrical installation and your sanctioned load all move the final number. Treat the output as a realistic starting range, not a price.
Why is the payback period longer than other calculators show?
Because we hold the tariff flat, derate generation for soiling, apply module degradation and deduct an inverter replacement. Calculators that assume 3-5% annual tariff inflation and clean panels for 25 years produce a shorter payback that does not survive contact with reality. We would rather set expectations you can hold us to.
How is the PM Surya Ghar subsidy calculated here?
The scheme pays ₹30,000 per kW for the first two kilowatts and ₹18,000 for the third, capped at ₹78,000 for any residential system of 3 kW or above. The calculator applies that ceiling automatically and applies it only to residential consumers, because commercial, industrial and institutional connections are not eligible.
Can I use this if I am outside Rajasthan?
Yes — the generation model covers Delhi NCR, Haryana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and the rest of India alongside four Rajasthan regions. The estimate will be sound anywhere in that list. Our own installation and EPC services, however, operate in Rajasthan, so we would not be the ones building it elsewhere.
Why does system size stop increasing above a certain bill?
The model caps system size at the point where you would be generating more than you consume. Beyond that, additional capacity earns export credit rather than bill offset, which changes the economics enough that it needs a proper commercial assessment rather than a slider.
An estimate is not a quotation
The calculator gives you a realistic range. A site survey gives you a number you can sign. The survey is free and there is no obligation attached to it.
