Sizes, prices and payback
Solar System Sizes and Prices — 1 kW to 100 kW
Every capacity we install, compared on the numbers that decide the choice: indicative installed cost, PM Surya Ghar subsidy, daily and annual generation, roof area required, annual saving and payback. All figures are modelled for Rajasthan conditions and confirmed by site survey before anything is quoted firm.
Residential
Home solar systems — 1 kW to 10 kW
These sizes qualify for PM Surya Ghar central assistance on a domestic connection: ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the third, capped at ₹78,000 for anything 3 kW and above.

| 10 kW | ₹5,00,000–₹6,20,000 | ₹78,000 | ₹4,22,000–₹5,42,000 | 43 to 45 units | 700 sq ft | 4 to 5 years |
Commercial & industrial
Business solar systems — 15 kW to 100 kW
PM Surya Ghar does not cover commercial connections. These systems make their case on displacing units bought at commercial or industrial tariff, with accelerated depreciation improving the post-tax position for a profit-making entity.
| System | Indicative cost | Units/day | Units/year | Annual saving | Payback |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 15 kW | ₹7,20,000–₹8,80,000 | 65 to 68 units | 24,000 | ₹2,16,000 | 3.5 to 4.5 years |
| 20 kW | ₹9,20,000–₹11,50,000 | 86 to 90 units | 32,000 | ₹2,88,000 | 3.5 to 4.5 years |
| 25 kW | ₹11,00,000–₹14,00,000 | 108 to 112 units | 40,000 | ₹3,60,000 | 3 to 4.5 years |
| 50 kW | ₹21,00,000–₹26,50,000 | 215 to 225 units | 80,000 | ₹7,20,000 | 3 to 4 years |
| 100 kW | ₹40,00,000–₹50,00,000 | 430 to 450 units | 1,60,000 | ₹14,40,000 | 3 to 4 years |
All pricing is an indicative installed-cost band, not a quotation, and is confirmed only after a site survey. Generation assumes approximately 1,600 kWh per kWp per year for a clean, unshaded array in the Jaipur region — western Rajasthan yields more, the south-east slightly less. Residential savings are modelled at a ₹7 per unit tariff and business savings at ₹9 per unit; your own tariff category governs the real figure.
Choosing a size
How to work out the capacity you actually need
Three numbers decide it, and roof area is the least important of them.
Start with annual consumption
Your bill shows units consumed. In Jaipur each installed kW generates about 1,600 units a year, so annual consumption divided by 1,600 gives the capacity that would fully offset it.
Check your sanctioned load
The DISCOM ties permitted system capacity to your sanctioned load. If the system you want exceeds it, a load enhancement becomes a planned step rather than a rejected application.
Then check the roof
Allow roughly 70–80 sq ft per kW including cleaning access and winter row spacing. Only genuinely shade-free area counts — the winter shadow path is what governs, not the June one.

Solar system size and price — common questions
What size solar system do I need for my home?
Work from your annual consumption, which is printed on your electricity bill, not from your roof area. In Jaipur each installed kilowatt generates roughly 1,600 units a year, so divide your annual consumption by 1,600 to get the capacity that would fully offset it. A home using 5,000 units a year needs about 3 kW; one using 8,000 needs about 5 kW. Your sanctioned load and available shade-free roof then confirm whether that capacity is achievable.
How much does a solar system cost per kW in Jaipur?
Indicatively ₹55,000 to ₹85,000 per kW for small residential systems, falling to roughly ₹40,000 to ₹53,000 per kW at 50 kW and above. Larger systems cost less per kilowatt because design, mobilisation and DISCOM process costs spread across more capacity. These are planning bands — a firm price follows a site survey.
Which solar system size gives the best return?
For a home, 3 kW is usually the best value point because the PM Surya Ghar subsidy reaches its ₹78,000 ceiling there — beyond it, capacity is bought at full price. For a business, the best return comes from whichever size most closely matches your daytime consumption, because a self-consumed unit avoids the full retail tariff while an exported unit is credited at less.
Is a bigger solar system always better?
No. Capacity beyond your consumption exports surplus at a lower credited value than the retail tariff you avoid by self-consuming, so returns fall as the system outgrows the load. Permitted capacity is also tied to your sanctioned load, so an oversized application can simply be refused. The right system matches your consumption — which is why we size from twelve months of bills.
Do prices include installation and net metering?
Yes. The bands quoted across these pages are installed costs covering modules, inverter, mounting structure, cabling, protection, earthing, installation, testing and commissioning, plus the net-metering application and the PM Surya Ghar subsidy filing where applicable. What they cannot include is anything a survey has not yet revealed — structural reinforcement, a load enhancement or an unusually long cable run.
Can I get a 4kW, 6kW, 7kW, 8kW or 12kW system, or only the sizes listed here?
Any capacity in between. The pages list the sizes people most commonly search for, but panels come in roughly half-kilowatt steps, so a 4kW, 6kW, 7kW, 8kW or 12kW system is perfectly normal — we size to your consumption and roof, not to a menu. For a quick estimate on an in-between size, read the two nearest pages and interpolate — the same logic covers a 40 kW or 60 kW commercial plant between the 25, 50 and 100 kW pages; the per-kW price falls gently as capacity rises, so the midpoint is a safe planning figure until a survey firms it up.
What does the price per kW actually pay for?
Roughly speaking: modules are the largest share, then the inverter, then the mounting structure, cabling, protection and earthing — with installation labour, transport, net-metering liaison and documentation making up the balance. This is why two quotes for the same capacity can differ honestly: a heavier structure for wind loading, DCR modules for subsidy eligibility, or a better inverter each move the per-kW figure for reasons that show up over the next 25 years, not in the first week.
