5 kW Solar System Price in Jaipur — Cost, Savings and Payback
A 5 kW solar system generates roughly 8,000 units a year in Jaipur — about 21 to 22 units a day — which covers the whole-home consumption of a large house running three or four air conditioners. Indicative installed cost is ₹2,70,000 to ₹3,40,000 before the ₹78,000 PM Surya Ghar subsidy.

units per day in Jaipur
Payback

This is the size that suits villas, independent houses and any household with a summer bill that runs past ₹5,000 a month. It is also the natural size for homes planning to add an electric vehicle, since a car charged at home adds several units a day to the load.

5 kW solar system — cost, output and requirements
Every figure below is modelled for Jaipur-region conditions on a clean, unshaded, correctly designed array. They are planning numbers, not a quotation.
| System capacity | 5 kW |
|---|---|
| Indicative installed cost | ₹2,70,000 – ₹3,40,000 |
| PM Surya Ghar subsidy | ₹78,000 for residential connections |
| Indicative cost after subsidy | ₹1,92,000 – ₹2,62,000 |
| Daily generation | 21 to 22 units on an average day |
| Annual generation | About 8,000 units |
| Roof area required | About 350 sq ft, shade-free |
| Solar panels | 9 to 10 modules at present-day panel wattage |
| Indicative annual saving | About ₹56,000 |
| Simple payback | 3.5 to 4.5 years |
Pricing is an indicative installed-cost band, not a quotation. Roof type, structure, mounting height, cable run length and module availability all move the figure, and a firm price is issued only after a site survey. Generation assumes roughly 1,600 kWh per kWp per year; savings assume the tariff stated on this page. Subsidy figures follow PM Surya Ghar as currently notified — verify current rates at pmsuryaghar.gov.in.
In practice
What a 5 kW system actually powers
Capacity is easy to quote and hard to picture. This is what the generation covers in a real building.
- Whole-home load for a large family house
- Three to four air conditioners in regular use
- Water pump, geysers and heavy kitchen appliances
- Home office equipment and an EV charger with planning
What 5 kW covers, and what it does not
Around 8,000 units a year is close to full offset for a large Jaipur home. Three to four air conditioners in normal seasonal use, geysers in winter, a water pump, heavy kitchen appliances and home office equipment all sit within it.
What it does not do is make you independent of the grid. A grid-tied system exports surplus during the day and draws from the grid at night, and it shuts down entirely during a power cut — that is a safety requirement, not a design flaw. If backup during outages matters to you, that is a hybrid system with battery storage, and it costs meaningfully more.
The economics of going beyond the subsidy ceiling
The subsidy at 5 kW is the same ₹78,000 you would receive at 3 kW, so the additional two kilowatts are bought at full price — roughly ₹1,00,000 to ₹1,25,000 for around 3,200 extra units a year. At a ₹7 tariff that increment saves about ₹22,000 annually and pays for itself in four to five years.
That is a sound investment when your consumption genuinely justifies it. It is a poor one if you are buying capacity you will export rather than use, since exported units are credited at a lower value than the retail tariff you avoid by self-consuming. Sizing against your actual annual consumption is the whole game.
Roof, structure and EV charging
A 5 kW array needs about 350 sq ft of shade-free roof. On many Jaipur plots that means using most of the available terrace, so elevated mounting is often the right answer — it keeps the space underneath usable for drying, storage or a seating area.
If an electric vehicle is on the horizon, say so at survey stage. A home charger adds roughly 8 to 12 units a day when in regular use, which changes both the sizing and the cable and protection design. Retrofitting a charger onto an installation that never anticipated it is more expensive than planning for it once.

5 kW solar system — frequently asked questions
What is the price of a 5kW solar system in Jaipur?
Indicatively ₹2,70,000 to ₹3,40,000 installed before subsidy. With the ₹78,000 PM Surya Ghar subsidy, the net cost typically lands between ₹1,92,000 and ₹2,62,000. Roof type, mounting height, structural requirements and cable run length are the main reasons the range is as wide as it is — a survey narrows it to a firm figure.
How many units does a 5kW solar system generate in Jaipur?
Around 8,000 units a year, or 21 to 22 units on an average day. In Jodhpur or Bikaner the same system generates closer to 8,500–8,900 units thanks to stronger irradiance. Keeping the modules clean is the single biggest thing within your control — soiling can cost 8 to 15% of output in the dry months.
How much will a 5kW system save each year?
About ₹56,000 a year at a residential tariff near ₹7 a unit, though households on higher tariff slabs save more per unit displaced. The saving is heavily weighted to summer, when both generation and consumption peak — which is precisely why the system pays for itself faster than a flat monthly average suggests.
Do I still get the ₹78,000 subsidy on a 5kW system?
Yes, but no more than that. PM Surya Ghar caps central assistance at ₹78,000 for any residential system of 3 kW or above, so a 5 kW installation receives the same amount as a 3 kW one. The additional capacity is bought at full price and justified by your consumption rather than by the scheme.
